Rotary Screen Printing line for Printed Electronics.

The Basalt Line by SPGPrints is a scalable, high quality production platform for printed electronics. Built on proven Rotary Screen Printing Technology, Basalt offers a modular and adaptable solution for manufacturing RFID tags, sensors, antennas, and other printed electronic components.

SPGPrints asked IDpartners to design the next generation of their product family—starting with the Basalt system. Our challenge: create a design language that supports both a modular production line and future growth, while visually expressing SPGPrints’ innovation and precision.

The heart of the production line: the Rotary Screen module

At the core of the machine is the RSI (Rotary Screen Integration) module, responsible for transferring conductive ink onto the substrate. This module can be integrated into a wide range of Rotary Printing Systems and forms the technological center of the Basalt line.

Because of its importance, the RSI module is given a distinct visual identity:

A striking SPGPrints blue highlight.
Dual glass doors for enhanced accessibility and visibility.
A bold hexagonal side pattern, inspired by the micro perforations of rotary screens that define the printed pattern.

This combination underscores the module’s critical role and elevates the user experience.

From concept to manufacturable design

Beyond styling, IDpartners supported SPGPrints in translating the design into a modular, manufacturable sheet‑metal construction. Working closely with the engineering team, we contributed:

Manufacturable sheet‑metal solutions.
Door, hinge, and gas‑strut concepts.
Support to maintain design intent throughout engineering.
Design‑for‑Assembly optimization.

This collaboration ensured that the final product is both visually stunning and technically feasible.

The renewed single‑colour rotary screen printing unit

The rotary screen module itself was redesigned to be a modern, high‑quality, and instantly recognizable SPGPrints product. It follows the same color palette, structure, and design principles as the Basalt line, making it one of the first members of the new SPGPrints product family.

Interactive demo – SPGPrints Basalt

To support the Basalt launch, we created an interactive animation showcasing the machine’s functionality and modularity. Presented on a large touchscreen at the tradeshow, the demo allowed visitors to explore each module in detail.
